69th Ethiopian Martyr’s Anniversary Celebrated in Los Angeles

A Painting Exhibition and discussion honoring the 69th Ethiopian Martyr’s Anniversary was held in Los Angeles on February 18, 2006.

On this occasion, the artwork of Artist Gebremariam Retta portraying Ethiopian patriots Abraham Deboch and Moges Assgedom and events surrounding the retaliation of Graziani, in which over thirty thousand Ethiopian lost their lives as a result, was unveiled.

A historical background on the events marking the courageous acts of the Ethiopian Patriots in countering the colonial invasion by Italy was presented by Ato Meshesha Birru.  Poet Eyassu Gorfu also read a poem dedicated to fallen Ethiopian Patriots.

Ambassador Taye Askeselassie, Consul General of Ethiopia in Los Angeles, also present at the event, made remarks on the heroism shown by Ethiopian Patriots to counter colonialism, which he said had been exemplary not only to Africans in their fight against colonialism but also to the freedom of movement of African Americans.

At the end, participants of the meeting established a committee, which was given the task to make a proposal for building a monument in the memory of gallant Ethiopian Patriots Abraham Deboch and Moges Assgedom.
