Bethany Negash
Memeorial
Foundation, Inc.
Based in Los
Angeles,
California, USA
says it has
dispatched
125,000 text
books and 12
computer sets to
Ethiopia during
the last few
months. The
humanitarian
organization has
also planned to
send additional
175, 000 text
books by the
year 2004.

DONATE $ 3500
FOR DROUGHT
RELIEF
The Hagere
Ethiopia Housing
cooperative
based in
Oakland,
California and
the Abater
Housing
Association of
Los Angeles
contributed
$3,500 USD for
the drought
affected people
in Ethiopia. The
fund raising
committees of
both housing
cooperatives
have donated the
money to the
Drought and
Emergency Relief
Fund established
by the Ethiopian
Consulate
General Office
in Los Angeles.
TIGRIAN
COMMUNITY IN
SEATTLE,
WASHINGTON
RAISED $7,100
FOR DROUGHT
Members of
the Tigrian
Community
residing in
Seattle,
Washington
donated $7,100
USD in support
of
drought-affected
people in
Ethiopia. The
contribution was
made to the
Drought and
Emergency Relief
Fund of the
Consulate
General of
Ethiopia in Los
Angeles.
In a letter
of appreciation
sent to the
organizing
committee and
each member of
the community
who participated
in the
fundraising, Mr.
Taye Atske
Selassie, Consul
General of
Ethiopia in Los
Angeles said
that the
donation will be
directly
transferred to
the Disaster
Prevention and
Preparedness
Commission of
Ethiopia, an
organization
which is
coordinating the
drought relief
effort
throughout the
country.
In addition,
the Tigrian
Community
members pledged
to contribute
more support to
the fundraising
drive that is
being organized
by the Ethiopian
Community
associations in
Seattle.
ETHIOPIANS IN
SAN DIEGO RAISED
$4,000 FOR
DROUGHT
Ethiopians
residing in San
Diego,
California
raised $4,000 in
support of
drought-affected
people in
Ethiopia. In a
fundraising
event organized
by the Ethiopian
Consulate
General Office
in Los Angeles,
members of the
Ethiopian
community in San
Diego said that
it is their
moral duty to
give financial
support to their
compatriots and
urged other
Ethiopians in
the Diaspora to
continue raising
funds to prevent
a looming famine
in their
country.
In addition,
participants of
the meeting
formed an ad-hoc
committee to
solicit more
support from the
community as
well as American
humanitarian
organizations
and individuals.
