CLIMATE    

Ethiopia covers a wide range of land features and bioscopes. There are five major ­climatic zones that vary from arid to cold and moist.

  •       Wurch: cold & moist; > 3200 masl; freezing cold; 800-1600mm precipitation; < 1% of the country

  •      Dega: cool and humid; 2400‑3200 masl; I I T ‑I 8'C; 1200‑1600mm precipitation; 10% of the country

  •       Woina dega: cool and sub‑humid; 1500‑2400 masl; 16T ‑20'C; 1200­1600mm (wet): 800‑1200mm. (dry); 30% of the country

  •       Kolla: semi‑arid; 500‑1500 masl; 20 T ‑ 27'C; 200‑800mm; 20% of the country

  •             Berha: arid; less than 500 masl; >27'C; <200mm precipitation; 40% of the country


The main rainy season (kiremet) occurs between mid‑June and September, followed by the dry season (bega) that may be interrupted in March by a short rainy season (be1g). Despite these variations, the country enjoys a sunny weather throughout the year.

  Fauna & flora:     A variety of fauna and flora are found where a number of these are endemic to the Country; some of the endemic mammals                 include: Semien fox, Mountain Nyala, Walia Ibex, and Gelada Baboon.
